Ok so I’m going to start off by saying that a sewing machine is a very personal purchase. Most sewers will choose a brand and then stick with it for all their sewing machine needs. I’ve always like Janome because my grandparents used Janome. It’s what I know, right? So when I’ve purchased machines over the years, I’ve always headed straight for Janome sewing machines.
Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200
As a quilter, this machine is a game changer! It has a wide 11" throat so you're able to get a big quilt beneath the arm while you sew it. It's also fantastic for free motion quilting as it's so easy to use. But don't think this is just for quilting. With over 170 different stitches, this is one of the best gifts for sewers. A machine this size makes sewing so much easier. It's worth every penny.
Janome 2212 Sewing Machine
This is the perfect beginner Janome sewing machine. While it is a basic machine, it will be an absolute workhorse. It has 12 built in stitches. It also has the ability to do free motion quilting. The throat is not as wide as the Horizon 8200 so it does make it more difficult to quilt large quilts, but it can be done. I made plenty on my small, beginner machine before upgrading. If you're on a budget and need a good priced sewing machine as a gift for someone learning to sew, look no further than this one.
